I think you need to open it up and do some voltage measurem= ents to see how far the battery voltage is getting. You may have to make up= some crocodile clip leads to enable you to connect the batteries to the ba= ttery connectors when you have it opened up on the bench. Be very careful t= o maintain the correct polarity! From the circuit I have it looks like the first place the supply goes is to= C98 a 33u electrolytic capacitor so you would need to check you are gettin= g 3v there. If not then you have found your problem. If you do then you wou= ld need to explore further. I notice that there is a dc to dc converter ic1= 0 near c98 that presumably steps up the 3v a bit for other circuits. If ic1= 0 is working c119 which is next to ic10 should have a higher voltage on it = than the battery supply. If its possibe to get to them, it is always worth replacing electrolytic ca= pacitors as they are known to deteriorate more than any other component wit= h age. Besides c98 I would check for voltage at c4 c61 c60 c15 and c18.
