It's probably worth pointing out a couple disadvantages about this battery pack so that others may make informed decisions. Whether the RadioShack pack's Buy&Plug&Play ease outweighs the below list is up to the scannist. The energy capacity is quite poor on the RS pack when compared to modern cells. Modern NiMH rechargable cells exhibit at least 3x the nominal capacity. Nicad cells have a nasty memory effect that will gradually diminish the overall life of the batteries. This is especially true for a device like a scanner that is, for most, not powered on until completely dead. The scanner's internal charging circuit has no provisions for battery conditioning/discharging that keep nicads at their best. Finally, cadmium is a toxic, heavy metal that should be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. This is seldom mentioned but is important. --- In [email protected], "kkem641" <kkem641@...> wrote: > > Radio Shack has the battery for the BC245 XLT, and is in stores with > the phone batteries. the Item number is 23-9074.
