I agree with this. I've had the antenna connection break on my 245 a few times. All that needs to happen is for the radio to fall on the antenna or the rubber duck to stress the joint.  I finally took the voicecoil braid off an old speaker and put that in place of the single-strand stiff wire so it wouldn't happen again. 

When stations are very strong, it is possible to hear them with a broken antenna connection and the ones further away won't come in. Open the radio up and look at the wire to see if it's broken off the board or the BNC.
