Not sure if anyone has answered this, so my 2 cents. (Note that I do not
know anything about the particular system you're trying to receive, so this
is just a general comment based on my own trunking system scanning.)

You can't hold the trunk button in (pressed) and expect to do anything else.
The button is only held in for a couple of seconds (to enter trunk
programming mode), and is then released.

In order to enter talk groups, the scanner needs to be running in trunking
mode. I.e. it needs a good receive of the control channel.

You can receive talk groups without entering them, and that is what you
should try first.

With the scanner in trunking mode, hit the search (SRCH) button. This will
place the scanner in ID Search mode. The display should then show a line of
dashes while it searches for active talkgroups and show the talkgroup
numbers when they go active. You should also hear active talkgroups.

If it shows frequencies instead, then your scanner is either not programmed
correctly for the trunking system, or is simply not receiving the control
channel solidly enough. Take the scanner back out of trunking mode, and it
should stop at the control channel with a good solid data noise. That will
at least verify whether your scanner can hear the control channel reliably.

If you can hear the control channel well, but the scanner will not ID
Search, then you have probably entered the tower frequencies as normal
(non-trunking) frequencies. You need to start again, and make sure that the
frequencies are entered as part of the trunking system programming.

Subject: [BC245XLT] Need a little help programming talk groups

Hi Everyone-

I have a 245xlt and am having some trouble programming in the talk groups
for Barberton, Police.

I have visited www.radioreference.com and have the following frequencies
programmed into the unit on bank 1.

866.77500c 867.45000c 868.28750c 868.85000

That works fine but I'm still not getting anything.

I try to hold trunk button in, select Type 2 system, which is the default
and then go to enter the talkgroups. 16,48.

48 003 A PD CH 2 Police Channel 2 Law Tac

The scanner will not let me enter talk groups and I can't pick up the police
calls.

Thanks in advance,

Bob
