Did you set the scanner up as well? Pages 70-71 in the owner's manual tells you how to do it. 9600 baud was not the fastest speed the 245 could handle - 19.2k is much faster when it comes to up/downloading, at least when I use Scan Control on it (which isn't that often, frankly...)
