Serial Port for Scanner

Hey everyone. Finally was able to track down a cable for my scanner but my PC doesn't have a serial port. I thought about just getting a usb to serial adapter but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with these and if they worked with the scanner. In theory it should work and I have used one before for other devices but I don't want to spend the money on one unless I know it would work. Not sure where the one I had went. I know I have the option to get a serial port card but have found the usb to serial adapters are easier to come by. Any thoughts?
