Senss software works okay, it does have some bugs but those are in
uploading/downloading groups. I haven't seen any problems with sending and
receiving data from the radio as long as you setup the communications parm
screen before starting. It was open source project with many hands creating
it and the source code is still available to those that want to play with or
improve it. It also supported internet streaming and remote control but
again that was an ongoing project. It works but could use some tweaking.
You can register on the customer support page at Uniden and download their
free program. Not fancy but it does work and will backup/restore the radio.
Depends on what kind of hobby you want to do. I enjoyed playing with Senss
software and tweaking it but ran out of free time to really do what I wanted
which was merge it with MS Access database to support different radios.
Maybe when I retire. You can also download trial versions of radio control
programs, loggers, recorders or pony up some money and get professional
programs. That is what I plan to do with my next radio after my wife
recovers from the new truck I just bought. ; )

Are you using the SENNS software? If so, I had the same problems using the
factory cable. Software has a lot of bugs in it and was abandoned. I ended
up using almost strictly for getting the light to stay on permanent.
