I am brand new to scanning

My mission is to scan the emerg channels in my area so that I can take call from home easier. I'm a medic in Manitoba. I have found the freqs that I want to listen to but am lost from there on how to program them all in. I have E-scanner installed but it cannot Auto config and tells me to do it manually. Anyone care to point this dumb dumb in the right direction? Thanks Jessie
