Yup, the police in my city use cellphones, and anybody can tell you they wo= rk quite well for keeping private. Our EDACS system has shifted 3 out of 13= frequencies to digital and has been under training and testing.=20 Except the P25 Homeland security mandating it, there is no need to add mill= ions of dollars of more equipment and annual software and system support co= sts to our broke city's budget. Digital radio has proved to be very problem= atic in many cities who use it, including contributing to the unecessary de= aths of two firefighters who lost digital communication because it works th= at way when all conditions aren't *perfect*.=20 I still use my 245 at home and my 246t while away. They have been great rad= ios and I don't look forward to retiring them because of a motorola P25 mon= opoly. If all the emergency folks had a way to trunk their cellphones, they= 'd have everything and we would never scan them. Also not scannable is CAD = that all patrol cars here use for image information, such as suspect photos= and documents. At least, I don't know how to scan it. I know there are vid= eo scanners, but I'm not going there. I doubt they can capture CAD data. --- On Mon, 4/11/11, Peter Duffy <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Peter Duffy <[email protected]> > Subject: RE: [BC245XLT] > To: [email protected] > Date: Monday, April 11, 2011, 3:13 PM > True, many police in the U.S. > dispatch digital now but if it needs to be > encrypted or at least "protected by law" they break out the > cell phone or > input on the mobile computer.=A0 I have heard them go > encrypted (including the > military) and then dump it for general conversations.
