Since you have a U.K. e-mail address, let me double-check that you are using the correct ARC software for your 780.

Butel has a version of the ARC780 software for the U.S. version of the scanner, and a separate version for the version sold in Europe.  The U.S. scanner is a "BC780XLT," while the European version is marked as "UBC780XLT."
