Which Scanner Software

I just picked up a BC780XLT for $5 at a local ham tailgate sale. Works great and I can program manually but I would like to automate things.

SO, which software should I use? I prefer freeware as money is tight at the moment but I can go with something that costs money if I have too. I just don't want to waste money only to find out the software is lousy - I get one shot at this.
