Sir,

In my opinion, if it was me. I would hook up the scanner straight to the 
battery. I would use a fuse in between the battery and scanner. I would use a 
fuse holder for both the Positive and Negative wires. Use a 10 amp fuse.  I 
can't remember what gage of wire to use.
