I just tried out Proscan for my BC780xlt's on Vista 64 bit. Worked instantly so I bought it. I previously used ScanStar, CC780, Andy's and ARC780. Those all worked 
fine on XP but not on 64 bit. Not much of the old stuff works on 64 bit windoz. My wife has windoz 7 64 bit on her laptop so I may try the trial version there as a 
test. I still have a XP 32 bit machine that runs the above programs and has an Icom R-75 and a BC780xlt connected.

I installed a PCI serial card on this PC when I upgraded but there is only room for two ports and one is already used for an Icom R-75 SW radio. I have three 
scanners at this PC - 2 BC780xlts and a RS Pro2006. I guess I'll carry the Pro2006 back to the XP machine for programming (Yes, it has a serial port and vintage 
hardware no longer available installed to do that). I only needed the Proscan program for occasional re-programming and a database of what is in the BC780xlt 
anyway. Too much going on to tie up the PC when the BC780xlt can run itself.

If you are using a PC I would recommend a PCI serial card and cable. It always works and is cheaper. For a USB/serial cable I have used a "UC232" and it worked 
instantly for the R-75 with no drivers to mess with. Others may have comments on these as some just don't work. The UC232 (That's the only info on it) is a very 
short cable - others are as well so you may need and extension cable.
