I too have had a knob split, and also lost a knob. What I did, was to get a scrap wooden dowell I had laying around, and cut off a section about the same size as the knob, and drilled a hole in the center, not all the way through. Actually I rounded off the sharp edges with sand paper, while in my drill press while a bit longer than the final version. The hole in the center was just slightly smaller than the shaft on the 780, so when I pressed it on, it had a tight fit. Whole process took about 10-15 minutes, and looked and felt pretty good. Anyway, a cheap way out if there aren't big enough pieces to glue, or if the knob is lost.
