These things were very expensive when they made. I saw original price for
them an they were $500 ! Hard to believe they wanted as much for the kit as
for whole scanner cost! The display head kit for my Bearcat 996xt is $169
but people sell them $125-$150 range sometimes. I would love have one but I
do no actual need it for anything so I do not buy thing like this unless
really need it but they are available. They stop making them for a while but
bring them back again after a year or so because people really want them for
they scanners, and the same display head work with several other model
scanners. It work with both mobile scanner and some portables also. Some
people only have portable but they hook it up to display head in car an they
suddenly have mounted mobile scanner again. It is very useful option an a
lot cheaper then the after-market one for780/785xlt. I think those were made
by private party an sold to people an so expensive when new an that why
there are no too many out there for you scanner L

The least expensive scanner model Bearcat make that comparable to you 780xlt
is the BC15X. It look just like my 996XT but work fine with re-banded trunk
systems so it work in your area just fine unlike you 780xlt that miss much
now because can no in rebanded area. 780xlt sell from $85-$150 on Ebay an
you 780 might selling enough to pay for new or used display head if you in
turn buy a new or used Bearcat BC15X model with the RH9600 remote head
option. I know that a lot of moving thing around but in the end you have
exact what you need for lowest possible amount spent. Just thought I tell
you about this option. I attach a picture of the RH9600 that hooked up to a
mans BC396XT hand held scanner in the car. Very neat option Uniden come up
with this J

I started using a new data decoder program called "Sorcerer" an it decode
almost every kind of data stream ranging from PSK31 to AX.25 packet and many
many other types. It use you computer sound card but in the past I never
have much luck using monitoring programs that use you computer sound card to
decode things but this program work very well indeed for all of kinds data.
It is very small program and work flawless even on older computers. It is
called Sorcerer if interested to check it out. I still monitor packet on
145.030 MHz but my station is farthest away from BBS (I am to the north of
everbody else). I really wish I have higher antennas because maybe we could
packet each other direct at times. Sometime I use my main receiver antenna
for packet to hearing far away stations and I would try hear you sometime if
you ever want try it direct with each other. Depend on weather it could work
at times for us. If you ever want try it let me know an I change frequency
so we try it out together. Maybe we get lucky one time.

Annette an I going to Silver Springs the end of January to celebrate our
birthdays. We are the same age an both birthdays are in January. Mine was
yesterday on 14th an Annette on the 28th. We are both 50 this month but I
feeling like I 80 now. We honeymoon in Kissimmee and go to several places
including Silver Springs 28 and half year ago so we going back again. I
highly recommend Silver Springs. It is very quiet an calm park to visit and
this month admission is half price of only $15 (normally $30 each person). I
hope you have good new year an doing good.

Talk to you later Don J
