Hi,

As far as the BC780 running warm can be a good thing as it keeps 
moisture away. You can cool it down some by turning the display back 
lighting off. Or on only when the squelch breaks depending on the software.

If your frequencies are rounding off then you need to change the step size.

ARC780 is good as well but doesn't work on my windoz Vista or 7 so I had 
to go to Proscan.
