I have a few of these switches from scanners I harvested. I don't have any stock plastic knobs for this unit, hope you have that plastic knob part, but I do have the switch. I can sell you the switch for a low price, or you can have me remove the old switch and install the replacement, and I can change your backlight L.E.D. color at the same time. Blue seems to be popular, however, many colors can be done. If you have much experience with repairing delicate electronics then you should be able to properly separate the knob's switch PCB from the switch itself without sending your unit to the trash. Your call on what you want. I purchased a dead bc780xlt from ebay (first bc780xlt I have ever owned) and restored it to fully operational condition. If you have the knowledge, parts, and know-how you can "make it" happen. Don't get too confident though, only do the repair yourself if are very well practiced, meaning that you do electronic repairs mostly every day. This radio is a precision electronic instrument with just about no margin for accidental happenings when the covers are off. --- In [email protected], "kd4mea" <mabey@...> wrote: > > I just bought a used BC780XLT, and the on off, volume and squelch control is broken. It is bent and maybe was dropped. The squelch portion works fine but the on off and volume portion just keeps on spinning. You have to unplug the power cord to turn it off. I was told that this part is no longer available from Uniden. Does anyone know if the part from a newer 796 will work on the 780. Any help appreciated. >
