Hi All,
Thanks for Ubbe's help.
I got the 780 out in the garage and removed the top case cover. The PCB
is upside down in the 780.
I found a 2N2222 transistor (flat side up) and a 4148 diode (band is
on the transistor side) soldered in near the VFO/Select knob. The
attached photo I just snapped should be clear enough to guide you to do
this kool mod. Hopefully this group accepts photos.
Obviously you will need some fine soldering skills, fine solder and a
low wattage iron. A stand alone magnifying glass and strong light will
help. Be sure to check that there are no shorts to the adjacent ground
plane. The top end of the diode is unsoldered as I had to lift it to see
the number but it is supposed to be soldered to that isolated pad it is
touching.
