Sean has some good points and if you are on a mountain top, the outside
antenna may well be unnecessary. However, since I have a T-shirt for
dealing with this problem I'll throw in my $.02.

Since you have invested in a BC785D, I will assume you are listening to
services across the VHF/UHF spectrum. As a result, the solution to your
problem, may not be simple. It would help to know the frequencies you do
scan (VHF, UHF, trunked, avaition, etc) and whether you listen to
signals originating from one particular direction or from all points of
the compass Are there other RF sources close to you?

There are lots of devices and techniques available to reduce
interference and intermodulation products (directional antennas,
attenuators, notch filters, bandpass fileters.....) but any
recommendation need further information from you regarding your
monitoring preferences and budget,

Or, you could move ;-)

If you have come here to find out about the 785D you have come to the right place! In fact the discussion of the BC-785D and how it works is the only acceptable topic on this list. Any discussion about anything other than the BC-785D is OFF TOPIC. I hope this is clear to all group members..
