785 Tape out problem

Hi,
i have a possible problem with the tape out when i connect ot the PC 
for recording whilst i'm away from the scanner, whenever the scanner 
stops on a selected freq with the tape out selected i get a 
loud "click" noise before the freq starts to record on the PC. i do 
have the same setup for my 780xlt but this is ok. is there a known 
fault and cure for my 785 box?
I'm probably the only user of the scanner in the UK as we cannot get 
this scanner in the shops over here.
