Accidental swim for VR-500

I was doing a little maintenance on our jacuzzi when my VR-500 slipped out of 
my pocket and into the water. Instinctively I grabbed it as it sank into the 
tub. A second later, it was back in my hand, above water but started flashing &
 bleeping, like it does when it's low on batteries. Almost by reflex, I 
opened the back, and knocked out the batteries and began slinging the unit so any 
water could drain down through the open battery compartment.

I then went into the house and removed the 4 screws holding the case 
together, and saw that Yaesu had cleverly packed a rubber fillet in a channel around 
the unit. That, and the rubber raincap for speaker & DC connector help keep 
insides from really flooding. The speaker grille netting was a little moist, and 
a few drops shook out.

There were some small droplets between the LCD display and the crystal 
protecting it, but after about 5 hours, all had dried out. I reassembled and put in 
the batteries and all was fine! 

I wanted to tell you about this experience incase it happens to you. All is 
not lost!
