Cable problem

Hi all, I have just received my cable and software and to my amazement i got no serial port on the back of pc, I did not bother to check as i thought all conputers came with one< brand new pc AMD 64 bit 1 gig memorey that sort of new comp, So what do i do, Is there a connector that i can use as there is a Parrellel port which will not be used, Or is there a connector for the USB ports, If someone has has same probs i would be great ful as to how you got round this problem.
