Anybody ever have this happen? I haven't used the radio for a few
weeks, and when I tried to turn it on I discovered that the batteries
were dead. I plugged in the charger and the "Charging..." message
didn't appear. Uh-oh, I thought. I pushed the power button and it
came on, and when I shut it off the charging message appeared as
normal. But something got really scrambled. When I tune anywhere
between 1710 kHz and 4500 kHz, it defaults to WFM instead of LSB, but
that isn't the half of it: it's actually receiving a WFM signal from
some other frequency! When I tune to 3330, I receive a religious
broadcast of some kind. I know there are a lot of those on HF, but
3330 is the Canadian time signal station CHU, which booms in here in
Pennsylvania. I verified that it is in fact coming in tonight on my
other radios, and the signal on the VR-500 is indeed wider than an AM
signal, so it's not an image.
