I wondered about that myself when my VR500 was doing the same thing. The
problem appeared to come and go with humidity, but it never really went
completely away. I got brave and opened my VR500, and I could make the
problem come and go at will by pressing on the ribbon cable that goes
between the main board and the display. I could never get it to stay
"fixed." I attempted to remove the display to further explore the
connection of the display's ribbon cable to the main board, but all I
managed to do was break a small surface mount transformer on the back of
the unit that rendered UHF reception useless... had Vertex fix that, too,
when I sent it in. New surface mount transformer: 67 cents. Lesson
learned to keep my hands out of the innards of the VR500: priceless... ;-)
