Re: Recieving SSB Transmissions on the VR-500

Great report! You inspired me to try my MFJ 1710 telescopic whip with  
my VR-500. This antenna is 27" long extended. There's a contest going  
on on the ham bands this weekend, so there are plenty of SSB stations  
on the air.

Great results. From my location in St. Louis, MO, many stations heard  
on 80, 40, and 20 meters. The VR-500 isn't as hot as my Sony PRO80 on  
HF, but for its size it's amazing how much SSB traffic can be copied  
using just a 27" antenna. Of course I have to be holding the radio to  
provide grounding, but this is how I use the VR-500, as a handheld, so  
no problem there.

And I've also been using the VR-500 with my Miracle Antenna tuner,  
with about 18 inches of stiff wire hooked on to the tuner. The Miracle  
Antenna tuner gives amazing boost to signal levels across HF. It's  
almost surreal, being able to monitor SSB stations on such a small  
rig. As a kid I dreamed about just this capability, and here it is.
