Too bad the same thing can't be said about the display in the VR-500. I am
on the second display screen in mine and it is now completely useless, as
the original one became. Many segments in the LCD display are no longer
functioning, which happened in the original display which I had replaced by
Vertex/Yaesu for around $120 US in early 2007. The new display lasted not
quite a year before the segments started failing and it is now worse than
the original one was when I had it replaced. My VR-500 is relegated to
monitoring a dual watch memory I have in it since there is no way I can see
anything on the screen to recall memory channels etc. since the keypad is
now a little unreliable and some keys bounce but I have no way of knowing
this since I can't see anything on the screen. I really don't want to pay
another $120+ to have the display replaced yet again to probably only fail
again in a short period of time.
It's a pity since it is a really nice little radio otherwise. :(
