Hi!

It will take me a bit to dig through boxes and backups, but I remember snag=
ging a web site capture that talked about how to replace the digitzer, step=
 by step with pictures.  I remember something about a thin large-ish nut an=
d everything, but the step by step made it look easy.  Then you could get t=
he assembly out to check out exactly what needs fixed. Yaesu still probably=
 has parts.  Mine has a cracked case that I've already patched once from ba=
tteries presing against the battery contacts which caused the case to flex =
out and crack.  I always figured that if the digitzer died long after the p=
arts supply dried up, I could re-case the unit with a bigger speaker, and d=
ifferent keypad, and just wire in a different digitizer (quadrature shaft e=
ncoder for tuning) and a potentiometer for sequelch. A regular sized radio =
with a big speaker that was DC to Daylight would be kind of neat...

Don't despair.  You can probably still get proper parts, but even when the =
day comes that we can't any more, we can patch around stuff, just like radi=
o enthusiasts have been doing for ages.

I have to run an errand this morning, I'll dig through stuff to try and hel=
p when I get back.  I know all too well what it feels like to have a gizmo =
with a non-trivial selling price break.  :-(
