Strange! I have been away for a few days and the rig has been turned off at the power supply. Now last night when I turned it on, there were a variety of rows and columns out. Slowly some of them came back until this morning there are only two columns out! When I get the time I'm going to have a good look at the connections to the display and also the capacitors attached to the driver boards.

I have previously used a 12v fan about 30mm square and arun it from 5v in a similar project. The fan ran quietly but with sufficient airflow.
