Sorry Derek, I've never had the chance to get my pudgy fingers on an AOR unit.  Don't read too much into the odd bad review.  Some people just expect more than they will ever get.  As with most radios I've used, the antenna you hook into will define how close you get to reaping the full abilities of the rig.  If your antenna is junk, no radio designer can fix that.
