Hi Bob,    The audio tone was in the speaker, remote speaker, earphones, irrespective of frequency, irrespective of antenna, etc.
 

    As noted in my second post to the group, the "fault" was solder bridge in the connector to the LCD display.
 

    What I suspect was happening was the refresh frequency from the LCD display was bridged onto the another signal line with the result that it entered into the low level amplifiers (for tone control etc) that are on the Control board.
 

    Removed the solder bridge, problem fixed.
