<p>Thanks for all your replies. I just received my VR-5000 about a week ago, and it's working great. I know it does not have a good front end and is prone to overloading on the AM band and HF. I found a very good fix is is to use a Preselector. The MFJ 1020C works real well. It's marketed as an " Active Antenna " but when you use it, just remove the whip antenna, and it becomes a Preselector. I have found it works real well on the AM BCB, and the SW or Ham bands, thus reducing overloading, and no need to use the attenuator on the radio.<div><br></div><div>This radio is very good above 30 mhz. I am pleased with it's performance. I use a Discone antenna in my attic for above 30 mhz, and below for HF or the AMBCB I use my Wellbrook loop. The only disappointment is
SSB. I have found the filter used is quite wide. If you have a station in the clear it's okay, but too wide of a filter to be of practical use in crowded Ham bands.</div><div><br></div><div>The Power plug size is a 2.1 mm ( inner diameter ) and 5.5mm ( outer diameter ) That's how it is on my unit.</div><div>Built in 1992, using firmware 1u.17</div><div><br></div><div>HTH</div></p>
