Since I'm sitting right now, I sit corrected! Upon much closer
inspection, I did indeed find a battery in mine. Firmly stuck onto the
back of the front panel assembly. It was very well hidden. I have yet to
locate it on any of the schematics I have. If I can locate the service
manual I will look there also. It was stuck on with double sided tape
AND some sort of white glue that did not want to let go of the circuit
board, but with a hot air rework too set to 250F it softened enough to
scrape off. The voltage of the one I removed was whopping 1.2V so it
still had 1 cell alive. No wonder the clock always needed to be reset
after the power went out. Rather than have to go through the disassembly
again in the future, i installed some wires so I can locate a future
battery somewhere easier to get to. I was going to use a small 5V .o3F
super cap for backup, but decided against that when I measured the
voltage that charges the battery at 9.9V. I did not measure the charging
current, but might do that later in my -spare- time.
I also noted some jumper wires tacked onto an electrolytic cap on the
front assembly running to a much larger cap glued to the rear of the
chassis with what looks like the same sort of glue. Is that a common
thing, a factory afterthought, a mod, or what...
