I was FINALLY able to put it in the Files section but not in the Photos section.. Go figure. I finally found my copy of the 2001 schematic and compared it with a more recent schematic I found on the web. In 2001 there was a battery, in the newer schematic there is no battery. I'm still tracing the circuits to determine what it is trying to supply power to. It is trying to keep the CPU running to keep the clock up to date plus a bunch of parasitic loads on the control board then it wanders off to the IF board but I have not traced that board yet. In short it it doomed to failure after a few minutes or hours. So Vertex-Yaesu gave up on the battery and others should also. If your radio has a battery get it out before it damages the radio. Electronics has been my hobby for about 55 years, and my vocation for about 45 years as a design nit-picker for some of the worlds biggest aerospace and defense companies. I may not have seen it all, but I know a bad idea when I see one. This is a bad one. By the time I am done, I will probably know more about the battery backup in a VR-5000 than the designer did.
