CALL FOR PAPERS

International Workshop on Distributed, High-Performance and Grid
Computing in Computational Biology (GCCB 2006)

to be held as part of

5th European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB 2006), Eilat,
Israel, 10-13 September 2006

Objectives and Workshop Format

The GCCB workshop will bring together computational biologists,
bioinformaticians and life scientists who have researched and applied
distributed, high-performance and grid computing technologies in the
context of computational biology and bioinformatics. The workshop will
discuss innovative work in progress and important new directions. By
sharing the insights, discussing ongoing work and the results that have
been achieved, we hope the workshop participants will glean a
comprehensive view of the state of the art in this area and identify
emerging and future research issues. The goal of the GCCB workshop is to
make a valuable contribution in encouraging and shaping future work in
this field.

The workshop is structured into a one-day session consisting of invited
speeches from industry and academia, and presentations of the papers
selected for the workshop. Please monitor the workshop Web site (
http://gccb2006.ulster.ac.uk ) for details on invited speakers, the
workshop program, and other aspects. The workshop proceedings are
expected to be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics
series.

Topics of Interest

Contributions of interest will address topics related to the development,
deployment, application and evaluation of distributed, high-performance
and grid computing technologies in the context of the following
computational biology and bioinformatics areas:

* Analysis, modeling and simulation of processes like pathways,
biological networks, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, protein-protein
interaction, transcription initiation, and whole systems;

* Computational approaches to biological entities and processes, e.g. to
functional genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epidemiology, epigenetics,
biodiversity, ecosystems, neuroscience;

* Linkage and sequence analysis;

* Molecule design;

* Prediction of protein-, DNA-, and RNA-structure, toxicity, AMDE
(absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion), etc.;

* Protein folding and unfolding;

* Information retrieval and knowledge discovery including data and text
mining;

* Management and integration of biological data and information;

* Distributed ontologies and semantic Web/grid approaches;

* Visualization and image management and processing of biological
data;

* Grid tools for computational biology and bioinformatics;

* Distributed systems and databases;

* Development of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic (drugs)
technologies;

* Large-scale (storage, computation, components/systems) studies in
computational biology and bioinformatics.

Please note that contributions to the workshop will only be considered IF
they (a) contain a considerable element of distributed, high-performance
or grid computing, AND (b) address a problem in computational biology and
bioinformatics. Contributions falling outside of this scope are not
relevant to the workshop.

presentation due for publication on conference CD

10 September 2006: Workshop at ECCB 2006 in Eilat, Israel

20 September 2006: Camera-ready papers due

December 2006: LNCS publication
ready

Paper Submission Details

Manuscripts (in English up to 6 000 words) should be submitted
electronically (submission details will soon be available on
http://gccb2006.ulster.ac.uk). Submission file formats are PDF and
Microsoft Word/LaTeX. Accepted GCCB’06 papers will be published in the
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series (to be
confirmed). The actual hardcopies of the workshop proceedings will be
available in December 2006 and be posted to all workshop participants.
Required LNCS Microsoft Word/LaTeX templates can be found on the workshop
Web site. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed. To be included in the
workshop proceedings, at least one of the authors must confirm his/her
attendance to the workshop and present the paper. A CD containing the
workshop participants' slide presentations will be prepared and be made
available at the workshop.
