Info about SNP datasets

Hi,

I am just curious about something I have been hearing/reading for almost a
year, and want to learn more about it, the Coriell Data. I think it is being
used for the majority of the genome-wide association researches, mapping,
etc... What is so special about this dataset? Is it something free to access
or to do research on it?

Another thing is, I want to practise some association methods and do not
have a clue about where I can start, could you recommend a dataset/database
for this kind of work?
