That can be seen from the atomic weights. The atomic weight of H is 1.008 ( nearly all H-1, with a trace of deuterium), Cl 35.457 (having stable isotopes 35 and 37), and Ca a bit over 40 (nearly all Ca-40, with small amounts of 42, 44, 46, 48). So the molecular weight of HCl is 36.465; and two moles (as per the reaction equation) of that is 72.930 grams, compared to the one mole of Ca, 40 grams. So if 100 grams of HCl were to react with 100 grams of Ca metal (a very explosive reaction, so do not try it at home), HCl would be the limiting reagent. To completely convert 100 grams of Ca to CaCl2 would require 72.930/0.40 = 182.33 grams of HCl.
