I have not heard of (poly)urethane being used as a glue, but the stuff is used extensively for clear varnishes, and when pigmented, for hard-wearing floor paints. When used as a varnish or paint, it is thinned and cleaned off brushes with mineral turpentine, which does not dissolve polystyrene foam insulation. For woodworking, I usually use polyvinyl alcohol glue, which can be washed off with water; or for exterior use or for greater structural strength, epoxy glue. For small repairs where rapid setting is required and no gap-filling capability is needed, "super glue", which is cyanoacrylate, can be used.
