Wednesday September 14 2016 OBITUARY : Michael Ramsbotham ----------------------------- Intelligence analyst who conducted an illicit affair at Bletchley Park and inspired the poet Henry Reed Michael Ramsbotham was part of a team of four working on Italian traffic around the clock Like many of his generation, Michael Ramsbotham learnt young that all was fair in love and war. At 21 he was entrusted with the task of analysing naval intelligence from broken codes at Bletchley Park. There he was to meet and become the muse of the poet Henry Reed. Ramsbotham never knew why he was chosen to work at Bletchley. He speculated that it was the influence of his Cambridge tutor, the historian JH Plumb, who was also at Bletchley, or perhaps of his relation Vernon Kell, the wartime head of MI5.
