Many thanks for these.

I had wondered, before I saw Vince's email, if there's the station might 
have been for VHF naval traffic, at least in part. Since Hallicrafters 
were being used and the aerials appear to be very high, that seems to be 
quite likely. The S-27 was definitely used by the RN , including 
Headache parties on board ships, for intercepting VHF.

German destroyers, as well as E-Boats, used VHF.

Is Vince's reference to an 'octagonal DF structure' a reference to VHF 
DF aerials? I'm not really familiar with them, since I've concentrated 
on HF-DF.

As someone else hinted, Geoffrey Pidgeon is the real expert. Have you or 
Vince tried him?
