Re: Sovjet successor of the ENIGMA (Fialka)

As yet I have no detailed history of the Fialka.  My guess is that it 
was once a VERY high level system that was eventually downgraded for 
lesser comms purposes.  The date on my (copy) manual is '1978'.

I emailed a former Fialka operator.  One day I'll go visit, ply him 
with alcohol and get more information.

There are other systems of course.  The good old M209 was supplied to 
the USSR on a lease-lend basis I hear.  Would love to collect some of 
those.

Once found an official Russian website with the invitation 'Ask Mr 
Putin a question ...' - so I did.  Only asked about WWII vintage 
machines but, strangely enough, had no reply.  If I ever bump into him 
at a dinner party ...
