Bletchley Park brainpower

Hi all,

This is a bit of fun and nonsense. The Yahoo! Mail team were recently awarded a
(somewhat bizarre) polystyrene statue in honour of their effors to compete with
the rival Google email service (Gmail).

The plaque on the statue reads:
------------------------------------------
Presented to the Yahoo! Mail Team by the good people of Yahoo! in recognition
of tremendous intellectual efforts put forth in order to defeat Gmail.

Not since the code breakers in Britain's Bletchley Park deciphered Germany's
Enigma code during World War II has so much brainpower been focused on kicking
an enemy's ass.

The Yahoo! Mail Team's bravery, courage, and cumulative intelligence will not
soon be forgotten. (At least not until the next version of Yahoo! Mail is
released.)
-------------------------------------------
Some people have taken this to be quite offensive to BP, in that competition
between two Internet companies over their webmail services is hardly comparable
to the World War II sigint struggle. However, I read it as tongue-in-cheek
hyperbole: it's actually a great complement, in that BP's work is now known --
at least in geek circles -- as a byword for great intellectual effort.
