Former BP employees working in the motor trade?

A comment on last weeks Formula 1 grand prix interested me.

The commentator said that "former BP Code breakers" were being employed by 
Formula 1 teams to work out the various probabilities/ possibilities of race 
stratagies.

He went on to say that these people had been recruited from "City firms".

Can this be true? If so I'd guess they would read this list, but surely past 
retirement age!

Is it easy money? ;-)
