      *BLETCHLEY* PARK TRUST WELCOMES TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT BY FOREIGN
      SECRETARY OF COMMEMORATIVE BADGES FOR BLETCHLEY PARK VETERANS

      *Bletchley Park Trust welcomed David Miliband advising Parliament
      today that the Government has decided to recognise the vital
      contribution made by members of the Government Code and Cypher
      School during the Second World War.*

  *Surviving military and civilian veterans who served at Bletchley Park
  and its outstations during the Second World War are eligible for a
  commemorative badge.  The award of the commemorative badge is a
  fitting recognition of the vital role played by the Government Code
  and Cypher School during the war. *

The Foreign Secretary said: "I am delighted that the vital and secret 
work of Bletchley Park in the Second World War is being recognised."

"We owe a debt of gratitude to all who served at Bletchley Park and its 
outstations: I am proud to acknowledge their ingenuity, skill and 
determination which helped our country in its time of greatest need."

        *Simon Greenish, Director of the Bletchley Park Trust, welcomed
        the announcement, saying, "These people made an enormous
        contribution to the outcome of World War Two, the twentieth
        century and freedom in the West.  After many years of having to
        keep their critical wartime work top secret, it is tremendous
        that this contribution has finally achieved recognition."*

A short launch ceremony will be held at Bletchley Park on 16 July during 
a visit by the Chief Patron of the Bletchley Park Trust, His Royal 
Highness The Duke of Kent. Prior to the ceremony HRH The Duke of Kent 
will be meeting Bletchley Park veterans, and unveiling a painting 
featuring some of them, visiting The National Museum of Computing and 
presenting long-service awards to volunteers.
