June 3, 2010 OBITUARY : Admiral Sir Peter White ---------------------------------- Supply officer who was at the heart of the rationalisation of the Royal Navy's shore assets worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s..../snip/ ....In the early part of the Second World War Birmingham took part in the Norwegian campaign and the Dunkirk evacuation. White then served in the Home Fleet flagship as secretary to the chief of staff and was present on board the battleship King George V at the sinking of the Bismarck. He became the "Ultra" working link between the C-in-C, the Admiralty and Bletchley Park and was one of a very small number of people to see at the time the remarkable effect that breaking the German codes had on the course of the war..../snip/ - Admiral Sir Peter White, GBE, Chief of Fleet Support, 1974-77, was born on January 25, 1919.
