FYI - Captain Jerry Roberts on BBC2 TV on Tuesday 25th October at 21.00hrs ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2011 23:16:25 Subject: UCL Provost's Newsletter - 17 October 2011 Captain Jerry Roberts Jerry is a 1941 alumnus of UCL?s German Department who will be featured in a BBC2 TV show airing at 21:00 on 25 October, entitled 'Codebreakers'. Very moving, from what I hear, and well worth catching. It is about the breaking of Tunny, which was the top secret cipher system. The story may only now be told, having been suppressed under secrecy laws for nearly 60 years after the war, compared with the Enigma story which was suppressed for 30 years. This programme tells the inside story for the first time. It discloses that Enigma decrypts helped Britain not to lose the War in 1941; while Tunny decrypts helped shorten the European War by at least 2 years.
