>=C2=A0"Nevertheless it remains the type species as the first named specie=
s of the genus, and it is diagnostic on the genus level based on the charac=
teristic cervical vertebrae of the type material that are unique to the gen=
us *Tanystropheus*=2E"

Further quotes:

"The size and shape of the vertebral centra, neural spines, and zygapophys=
es that can be observed for the large morphotype of *T=2E longobardicus* ar=
e indistinguishable from *T=2E conspicuus* and *T=2E haasi*=2E Additionally=
, other isolated material assigned to *T=2E conspicuus*, comprising dorsal,=
sacral, and caudal vertebrae, as well as a humerus and femora, also cannot=
be distinguished from this taxon (Wild, 1973; personal observation SNFS)=
=2E However, because only a very limited comparison is possible, and skull =
material, which is likely more diagnostic, is completely lacking for both t=
axa, an unambiguous taxonomic identification of *T=2E conspicuus* and *T=2E=
haasi* is not possible=2E Therefore we propose to consider both taxa as no=
mina dubia=2E"

"*Tanystropheus conspicuus* is considered to be represented by insufficien=
t material to distinguish it convincingly from other *Tanystropheus* taxa, =
and we therefore consider it a nomen dubium=2E Nevertheless" (continued abo=
ve)

So, the normal thing to do would be to sink *T=2E longobardicus* and *T=2E=
haasi* into *T=2E conspicuus*, because all three are indistinguishable fro=
m another=2E But because the material of *T=2E conspicuus* and *T=2E haasi*=
is so limited that hardly anything can be compared, the authors prefer to =
withhold judgment, and they implement that by calling *T=2E conspicuus* and=
*T=2E haasi* nomina dubia and maintaining the name *T=2E longobardicus*=2E

None of this turns the genus name into a nomen dubium=2E It is completely =
clear that the material called *T=2E conspicuus* and *T=2E haasi* forms an =
exclusive clade with the material called *T=2E longobardicus* and *T=2E ant=
iquus*, and the available name for this clade is *Tanystropheus*=2E
