With apologies for cross-postings:

The renowned linguist and rhetorician John Swales died in 2025 and in his honour we would like to propose a special issue of the journal Text and Talk. We invite abstracts of 400-500 words on any aspect of Linguistics related to Swales' work, with topics including but not limited to:

  * Genre (move) analysis, including developments in the model since its inception, and using moves to investigate novel genres.
  *   The Michigan corpora.
  * The relationship between Swales and other approaches to language.
  * Swales and the analysis of university language / discourse communities.
  * Swales and English for Academic Purposes.
Your abstract should make explicit the link to John Swales' legacy.
Key dates:

  *   Deadline for abstracts: 1 May 2026
  * Notification of acceptance: June 2026
  *   Deadline for papers: 5 January 2027
