Description:

The successful candidate will collaborate with project members in
investigating register differences in Czech and Russian in large text corpora,
in carrying out psycho-linguistic experiments, and in preparing and writing
project-relevant publications. S/he is expected to prepare a PhD thesis within
the thematic realm of the project.

The project (project A03) is part of the new Collaborative Research Center
(Sonderforschungsbereich) “Register”, funded by the German Research Foundation
(SFB 1412). The SFB 1412 investigates how competent speakers adapt their
linguistic behavior to different situations, i.e., it targets language-users’
knowledge of situational-functional variation. The SFB 1412 offers a strong
infrastructure with funding opportunities for conferences, hosting
international experts etc., and, above all, an inspiring interdisciplinary
network of researchers.

Project A03 specifically investigates register-related syntactic variation in
Czech and Russian. It conducts corpus-based analyses of register, scrutinizes
relevant dimensions of variation in psycholinguistic studies, and investigates
the register-sensitivity of syntactic dislocation vis à vis variants without
dislocation. It aims at modelling the relation between register knowledge and
core linguistic knowledge within its domain of inquiry.

Applicants Should:
- Hold an MA in linguistics, Slavic philology, or a related discipline,
- Have a very good command of Russian or Czech (and a strong interest in the
other language), and
- Have an expertise either in theoretical linguistics, experimental
linguistics or corpus linguistics.

The salary is determined in accordance with E 13 TV-L HU.
