Globalisation itself is redefined by the search for self-description in the local sphere through identity assertion and communication. Global and local are not only spatial configurations but also spaces that redefine societies in terms of realities, i.e. what is common and what is divergent from one society to another. Indeed, the ELT community throughout the world has both global and local goals to promote and enhance English language teaching and learning. “What is globalized is not an abstract language, but specific speech forms, genres, styles, and forms of literacy practice” (Blommaert 2003, p. 608). What is local, however, is the context, the speakers and their specific needs. The present International conference on ELT in a Changing World focuses on debating the source and nature of the changes affecting schools, teachers, and learners. Among the major concerns are the very responses to these changes as imagined by policy makers, curriculum developers, teacher educators and researchers. Our conference is meant to be an opportunity for the community of ELT professionals from Tunisia and around the world to discuss the changes focusing on the following (but not exclusively) sub-themes: - Educational policy responses to globalization - Learner-centered teaching methodology - Reflective teaching/learning - Skills for teachers and learners - Quantity/quality in education - Blended learning and eclecticism - Alternative evaluation and assessment for learning - Task-based, project-based, inquiry-based teaching/learning - Experiential teaching modes and transfer for learning - (Inter)cultural learning through electronic and/or exchange programs - Interdisciplinary approaches to teaching - Multimodal texts as authentic materials - Innovative methods of teaching/assessing the language skills - Teacher qualifications and career prospects - Responses to new demands in teacher training, education, and development - ELT global dominance and local struggles Call for Papers: Important considerations: -To submit your abstract (500 words max), download the form below: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerioDiojJpRtj5z0CATfEu3Y4YdCJFzxeqc0 MA-wLcNMJ24Q/viewform and email it to [email protected] Important Dates: -Abstract submission deadline: 5 January 2020 -Acceptance notification: Starting 15 January 2020 -Payment of registration fees for presenters: 10 February 2020 -Hotel booking: Any time from the notification date but no later than 15 February 2020 Conference fees: Students from other countries: 70 Euros payable upon arrival Professionals from other countries: 90 Euros payable upon arrival The registration fees cover: - Access to all plenary sessions - Access to all workshop sessions - Coffee breaks - Booklet - Certificate of attendance - Conference pack (bag + pen + notebook) - Conference Party We have managed to negotiate special rates for our delegates at Iberostar Averroes Hammamet Sud, Tunisia, as indicated in the Table below: Double room (All in soft): 103 (TND) / per night per person Double room (full-board): 92 (TND) / per night per person Single room (All in soft): 103+22 (TND) / per night per person Single room (full-board): 92+22 (TND) /per night Discount 3rd Adult 30% Discount Kids (2-11) 50% with parents/30% in a separate room - Adjacent rooms are available for families - Booking: No later than 15 February 2020 Booking details: Please contact Soumaya Hamza Kammoun Tel: 24 721 821 Email: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *************************** LINGUIST List Support *************************** The 2019 Fund Drive is under way!
