Meeting Description:

You are cordially invited to attend the 21st International CALL Research
Conference, which will be hosted by Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan on July
3-5, 2020.

The theme of the conference will be Smart CALL. We define “Smart” as
possessing three qualities: personalization, contextualization and
socialization.

Personalization is the extent to which technologies and learning environments
are adapted to the specific profile of the language learner. Contextualization
is how technologies and learning environments can be adjusted to the specific
context of the learner. Socialization is the way in which technologies and
learning environments afford meaningful interaction amongst learners,
co-learners, teachers and researchers. Detailed information about the theme is

Keynote speaker: Mat Schulze

In line with our conference theme, our keynote speaker Mat Schulze will
provide an overview of Intelligent CALL and what it tells us for future
developments in the field. Detailed information about the keynote speaker is

Abstracts deadline: 30 January, 2020. The call for papers for the conference
can be found from https://www.call2020.org/call-for-papers


Call for Papers:

Contributions on your planned, current or finished research can be submitted
in the form of research reports, reviews, position papers, technobiographies
or project proposals. They should all explain which aspects of your work can
be called “smart.”

There are three stages:

1. Submit your abstract before 30 January 2020. You will receive a
notification of acceptance by 15 February, 2020. Follow the instructions in
the template.

2. Should you wish your paper to be included in the proceedings (published
with ISBN number), you should submit a 4000-word text by 15 March, 2020. These
papers will be double-blind reviewed. The best papers will be presented in a
plenary session.

3. Selected papers will be published as longer articles, including the
feedback received at the conference, in Computer Assisted Language Learning.
